Earthworm,
Earthworm

Have you ever wondered how even the smallest creatures can fulfill their purpose?

Through the lives of the earthworm, bumblebee, ant, firefly, slug, praying mantis, and caterpillar, children discover the unique role each insect plays in the world. As they explore the wonders of nature, they are gently invited to consider their own unique gifts and how they can live with joy, purpose, and gratitude.

How This Book Came About

I’ve always been very inquisitive. As a child, I’d irritate my mother by asking her questions about everything under the sun. She’d famously answer, “I don’t know!” That’s probably why I majored in journalism in college, thinking I’d be a reporter…you get paid to ask people questions.

When my boys were little, they were always curious about everything, including insects, so this just fed my own love for learning. I remember specifically one day when the boys had found a worm on the sidewalk, and we were holding it in our hands, looking at it, studying it, and watching it wiggle. And it came up that the worm’s life had significance and purpose…as it lived its life in the dirt doing what it was created to do, and that was enough to give it value. And I kept pondering that question: how DOES the earthworm glorify God with his life?

The book was really written to help my boys understand that if God would take so much care in creating the tiniest of insects and see them as contributing to the world, then, hopefully, they would also see their profound worth to God.
